MLS 2022 Week 29 | MLS Betting Tips

Kris Brown – AKA MLS Card Guy – is our resident serious Major League Soccer expert.

Kris’s passion for the MLS really took off during the 2018 season in which he was a part of the team at DC United that opened Audi Field and welcomed Wayne Rooney to the MLS. He is now in his second season with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds of the USL. Kris likes to follow D.C United, Cincinnati, Seattle, and Atlanta.

His favorite player in the MLS is Luciano Acosta, but past favorites include Clint Dempsey and Kevin Paredes. The most iconic game he attended came at Audi field against Orlando in 2018, Wayne Rooney famously chased down an Orlando player who was racing towards an open DC goal, expertly tackled the ball away to save the draw, then unleashed a laser from midfield that Acosta headed in to complete the hat trick and seal the win.

American College football is back this week which means the NFL is one more week away and it also means that we are getting really close to the end of the season. Teams are fighting for every last point now as that could mean making the playoffs or missing out. The supporters shield race has also been suddenly blown wide open. There was some midweek action this week during which most teams used rotated lineups. Finally, Orlando will play next midweek in the US Open Cup final against Sacramento, their game this weekend against Miami has been moved so no need to worry about rotation in that one.

MLS Betting Tips – Week 29

MLS Betting – Game Week 29 Preview

Columbus Crew vs Chicago Fire

Columbus has been on a tear since adding Cucho to the mix. This team was sound defensively for most of the season but kept dropping points because they couldn’t score. Now with a game changer up front, Columbus is one of my sneaky picks to win the MLS. Conversely, Chicago’s chances are beginning to fade away. They are now 5 points off the playoff line with 6 games still to play. Almost even money on the home team is great odds in a game I expect to be fairly easy for Columbus. They can move 6 points above the line with a win.

New York Red Bull vs Philadelphia Union

New York is beginning to turn it on again after a scary start to August. They have impressive wins in Atlanta and in Montreal as well as a win over (at the time) white hot Miami and a draw with a good Cincy team. Next they host their personal boogiemen with Philly coming to town. The Union are on an incredible run having outscored their opponents 20-3 in the last 5 games, and they are unbeaten in the last 8 against the Red Bulls. Jim Curtain knows exactly how to beat this red bull team and I’ll take more than even money that he can do it again (although Draw no bet on Philly is probably safer).

MLS Betting – Over 2.5 Goals Betting Odds

Nashvilla vs Austin

Nashville is getting hot at exactly the right time, Hany Muktar has emerged from his average play and is looking like the man who finished second in the MVP voting last season. However, I think there is still a bunch of disrespect around this Austin team who week after week continue to surprise us. Portland is an awful matchup for Austin, but before that they dismantled the best team in MLS history 4-1 and it wasn’t that close. This will be a fun one to watch but I have made so much money taking Austin as the underdog this year that I am going to hop on the train again. Expect a bunch of goals in this one too.

Toronto vs Montreal

We all knew when the fixture list was announced that this game would feature one of the top teams in the conference against a team fighting for its playoff life. What we did not know is that Montreal would be the team on top. I still don’t think I buy this Montreal team as there isn’t much talent outside of Djordje Mihalovic. That being said, they love to go to other people’s houses and ruin the party. They have 8 wins in 14 road matches this season which is absolutely incredible in the MLS. They feast when teams underestimate them and try to put pressure on them. That is exactly what Toronto is going to do in this game. All of that being said, I am not betting against Bernadeschi and Insigne when they face a rival who is willing to sit back. I am taking Toronto at even money.
