MLS 2022 Week 30 | MLS Betting Tips

Kris Brown – AKA MLS Card Guy – is our resident serious Major League Soccer expert.

Kris’s passion for the MLS really took off during the 2018 season in which he was a part of the team at DC United that opened Audi Field and welcomed Wayne Rooney to the MLS. He is now in his second season with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds of the USL. Kris likes to follow D.C United, Cincinnati, Seattle, and Atlanta.

His favorite player in the MLS is Luciano Acosta, but past favorites include Clint Dempsey and Kevin Paredes. The most iconic game he attended came at Audi field against Orlando in 2018, Wayne Rooney famously chased down an Orlando player who was racing towards an open DC goal, expertly tackled the ball away to save the draw, then unleashed a laser from midfield that Acosta headed in to complete the hat trick and seal the win.

Very little to note here as we open another weekend of MLS action. Just briefly, you will want to note that Cincy, NYC, and Orlando all played during the midweek. Orlando won the US Open Cup (which sends them to the CONCACAF Champions League next season) in a fairly easy game with most of the starters out there for less than 90’. However it was a hot, humid night in Orlando. NYC and Cincy played each other, Cincy rotated and got the 1-1 draw against NYC on the road. Meanwhile NYC lost a number of players to injury and they have been in terrible form. Now onto the full slate of games.

MLS Betting – Game Week 30 Preview

Montreal vs Columbus Crew

This will be a fascinating game between two white hot teams with very different styles. The Crew have now lost just 1 of the last 16 MLS matches thanks to solid defensive work and timely goalscoring. Meanwhile Montreal has 16 wins and 52 points this season, both of which are franchise records, thanks to their potent attack. Montreal conceded twice in the opening minutes against Toronto on the road and they were back in the lead by halftime. Montreal has some fantastic wins this season but they are also prone to losing games they shouldn’t. With that type of team I like to side with the underdog which in this case is Columbus. I don’t fully back them to win outright because Columbus are the kings of the draw this season, but you should get great value on a tie no bet Columbus to win, or even a Double Chance at a bit over evens is a nice value.

Houston Dynamo vs Sporting Kansas City

Newsflash!! Houston is really bad this season, they have just parted ways with the coaching staff and will now begin preparing for next season. Sporting hasn’t been good over the course of the year, but a new signing at striker late in the summer transfer window has finally given them some spark up front. They are unbeaten in 3 matches and an underdog against one of the worst teams in the league. I say take the visitors in this one. Side note, the Predictology systems are taking Houston as the value in this one so you must pick sides.

Colorado Rapids vs Vancouver Whitecaps

Playoff hope is quickly slipping away for both teams as they sit 9 and 8 points behind the playoff line respectively (although both have a game in hand). If either wants any hope of staying alive past this weekend they must collect the full three points on Saturday. Colorado has been better at home, but they just aren’t scoring enough. Vancouver has been a terrible road team but they are unbeaten in the last 5 trips to the Mile High City. I think this just ends in a stalemate, ironically killing each team’s postseason hopes. 0-0 or 1-1 is the correct scoreline to me, maybe 1-0, 2-1, 2-0 Colorado are possibilities. But I think you take the under here.

RSL vs DC United

GET YOUR POPCORN READY BOYS AND GIRLS!! The second David Ochoa signed with DC United, many RSL fans would have circled this game on the calendar. The breakup was not exactly the most amicable split of all time, and Ochoa is not one to hold back the antics. As for the game itself DC is notoriously bad at Rio Tinto stadium (lost 8 of the last 10 visits since 2005) but the black and red find themselves in “decent” form (at least by their lofty standards) United have avoided defeat in consecutive games for the first time since MAY! Meanwhile RSL has

won 8 points from the last 5 games despite winning just 3 of the last 13. A part of me thinks David Ochoa standing on his head and pitching a shutout to obliterate his former team’s playoff hopes would be poetic. However, I still don’t think DC scores in this one and I would love to see the crowd go nuts after scoring a goal on Ochoa. Regardless, my vote is to take the under and sit back and enjoy this one.
