MLS 2022 Week 28 | MLS Betting Tips

Kris Brown – AKA MLS Card Guy – is our resident serious Major League Soccer expert.

Kris’s passion for the MLS really took off during the 2018 season in which he was a part of the team at DC United that opened Audi Field and welcomed Wayne Rooney to the MLS. He is now in his second season with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds of the USL. Kris likes to follow D.C United, Cincinnati, Seattle, and Atlanta.

His favorite player in the MLS is Luciano Acosta, but past favorites include Clint Dempsey and Kevin Paredes. The most iconic game he attended came at Audi field against Orlando in 2018, Wayne Rooney famously chased down an Orlando player who was racing towards an open DC goal, expertly tackled the ball away to save the draw, then unleashed a laser from midfield that Acosta headed in to complete the hat trick and seal the win.

We have been off the last few weeks for various reasons but it’s time to get right back into the action as only a few games remain for teams fighting for a playoff spot as a reminder the top 7 from each conference will be granted a spot in the playoffs with the top 4 allowed to play at home and the top team in each conference will not have to play in the first round. Those are the lines that teams will be worried about, 1st, 4th, and most importantly 7th.

MLS Betting Tips – Week 28

MLS Betting – Game Week 28 Preview

Austin vs Los Angeles FC

The biggest Heavyweight matchup of the season so far, Austin and LAFC should put on a spectacular show as it will be must see TV on friday night. Austin is the second team in MLS history to both score and concede 3 goals in each of their last 3 home games. 20 total goals in 3 matches is absolutely wild but I think its a bad sign for this particular matchup. We have been on the Austin hype train all season long but I think I am going to get off this week to pay respect to (potentially) the best team in MLS history. LAFC have won both trips to Austin in its history and I think we see another 3-2, 3-1 type of scoreline in this game.

Portland vs Seattle

MLS’s oldest and (In my opinion) best rivalry gets renewed with a MASSIVE game for both teams. Both of these teams have a long tradition of being very average most of the year and making a late august run all the way to the MLS cup. In fact the last time one of these two teams didn’t win the Western Conference and make the MLS cup was in 2014! The loser of this game has a very real chance of missing out on the playoffs and if they draw they may both miss out. This game has a history of being away and underdog dominated throughout the years. In this edition there really won’t be an underdog (both teams are even in odds to win) but there is a visitor. Seattle showed some signs of life last week in a disappointing 3-3 draw with the galaxy. Christian Roldan’s injury will force Rusnak higher up the field which may actually be a good thing. Seattle has never missed the playoffs and the reigning champions of North America won’t want to start now.

MLS Betting – Over 2.5 Goals Betting Odds

Minnesota vs Houston

This one won’t take too much of your time to read. Minnesota is on fire and flying up the Western Conference standings. Houston is just not very good and they have nothing to play for. It’s in Minnesota, don’t overthink it. Take the easy odds on this one.

Philadelphia vs Colorado

See the previous post except replace Minnesota with Philadelphia and Houston with Colorado. Look at that even shorter!

PS I have to include this because it’s an incredible stat, Philadelphia’s 6-0 win over DC United was the third win by 6 or more goals in club history equaling Sporting Kansas City for the most 6 goals wins by a franchise all time. All 3 wins by 6 or more have come in the last 9 games for Philly.

Dallas vs RSL

We mentioned how Dallas being so young can lead to them having some wacky results and last week against Nashville was a wacky result. However, they have shown the ability to bounce back well only losing consecutive games once this season. RSL comes to town taking only 10 points from the last 10 games. That is better than only DC United and Houston during that time period. Dallas won earlier this season in Rio Tinto which was really tough to do at the time. I expect a lower scoring game so possibly a draw or a 1-0 2-0 Dallas win.
