MLS 2022 Week 7 | MLS Betting Tips

Kris Brown – AKA MLS Card Guy – is our resident serious Major League Soccer expert.

Kris’s passion for the MLS really took off during the 2018 season in which he was a part of the team at DC United that opened Audi Field and welcomed Wayne Rooney to the MLS. He is now in his second season with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds of the USL. Kris likes to follow D.C United, Cincinnati, Seattle, and Atlanta.

His favorite player in the MLS is Luciano Acosta, but past favorites include Clint Dempsey and Kevin Paredes. The most iconic game he attended came at Audi field against Orlando in 2018, Wayne Rooney famously chased down an Orlando player who was racing towards an open DC goal, expertly tackled the ball away to save the draw, then unleashed a laser from midfield that Acosta headed in to complete the hat trick and seal the win.

Before we get to the action this week, a few notes about other competitions. This week we saw Seattle top NYCFC in the second leg of the CCL, both teams are slight candidates to rotate this weekend, but Seattle especially had multiple players come off with cramping issues. They won’t play the first leg of the final until the last week in April so expect to see Seattle rotate heavily next week. Secondly, 17 of the US based teams in the league will play during the midweek in the US Open Cup. This is typically a competition that younger players and rotational players play in until the later rounds, so not necessarily something that will cause rotation, but keep an eye on those rosters if there are any surprise rests for guys in the pregame. Now, onto the meat of the program!

MLS Betting Tips – Week 7

MLS Betting – Game Week 7 Preview

DC United vs Austin FC

Finally a DC game I get to write about! Both these teams started out with two wins and have more or less stumbled since then. Austin had a nice win last week over a Minnesota we like alot, but that was at Q2 stadium in front of the home fans. Now they go on the road to a DC team that was off last week. DC has had Chris Durkin and Taxi Fountas to this roster in recent weeks. Durkin is a former DC academy player who returned to the club after a few years in Europe. Taxi on the other hand, who should make his debut off the bench in this game, is the club’s highest paid player. It will likely take a few weeks to really get everybody going, but even money (1.99) at home, with a week of rest, for a team that likes to press, against a good not great opponent is a decent shout. Over 2.5 goals is also a nice shout at 1.78 as DC are very aggressive and Austin has the quality to make them pay when they overextend.

New York Red Bells vs Dallas

Remember what we said about the Red Bulls, they are a young team that has shown promising signs, but with so little veteran leadership they will be inconsistent at times. A team as good as Dallas is really nice to get such a high number on (4.33) That gives us implied odds of 23% on a Dallas win, I would put that number closer to 30% or so. Arriola should be good to go, so Dallas should be at full strength. Same thing is true for the Red Bulls with early MVP candidate Frankie Amaya back from suspension. Additionally, New York does not have a victory at home yet this season.

MLS Betting – Over 2.5 Goals Betting Odds

 Austin vs Minnesota United

Cincinnati has signed a ball winning midfielder from Turkey who is supposed to be very talented. However, until he gets integrated into the team We continue to see value on the over in Cincy games. Their 6 games have seen 22 total goals scored, partially due to Cincinnati’s dangerous attack, but mostly due to their porous defence. They go up against an Atlanta team that has seen similar offence in their games, 16 goals were scored in the first 4 games before back to back 1-0 results in the last two games. Luiz Araujo is expected to be available off the bench which would be a gigantic help to this offence which is suddenly stagnant. Over 2.5 has really nice value in this game at 1.71 but even over 3.5 (2.68) and over 4.5 (4.87) are probably not bad shouts.

San Jose vs Nashville

Nashville is incredibly impressive so far this season. They open a brand new stadium (which looks absolutely sweet by the way, check it out if you haven’t seen it) on May 1st which means they have 2 more road games on this massive 8 game road trip to start the season. They have one of the top defenses in the league, conceding only 1 goal per game in 6 road games so far. They go up against San Jose, a team that typically gives up a ton of goals and scores a ton of goals. It’s a fabulously interesting clash of styles. I expect Nashville to win 1 or 2 nothing but this game could also get completely out of hand if San Jose scores early and it could be 3-3, I have no idea. I put this as the bonus game because it should be great entertainment even though I don’t see a ton of value on any of the lines. This could also be Mattias Almeyda’s final game in charge of San Jose as Chivas just fired their manager and Almeyda is the top name on their list. He wants to leave San Jose and San Jose want him gone, but they can’t afford (or won’t pay) the buyout of his contract, Chivas may be just what both sides want.
