Week 30 – Ligue 1 Betting Tips | French Football Betting

Hope you are all doing well and are as happy as I am that the International break (the final one of the European season) is done and dusted.  There are some tantalising games in Ligue 1 this week (Game Week 30) and I will be taking a look at some of them below.  And my thoughts are very much in line with the odds (with the exception of one game!).  Last week I predicted a Montpellier win against Bordeaux against the odds and was correct, I faded Marseille against Nice predicting a draw but OM prevailed 2-1.  Finally, I said that Metz would lose to Rennes but might make it difficult for the current form team in the league…….Rennes ran out 6-1 winners!

Let’s take a look at this week’s focus games for game week 30.

NICE vs RENNES

This could be a real classic.  Two of the best teams in the league this season going head to head in a vital game for boths’ Champions League chances.  It is also a fascinating battle of styles.  Rennes (7 wins in a row) are the league’s attacking juggernaut with 63 goals scored, the most by any team in Ligue 1 this season.  They have three players (Laborde 21, Terrier 16, Bourigeaud 16) in the top 10 in the league for combined goals and assists.  They push forward on the front foot and don’t tend to let off.  Nice on the other hand are still the meanest defence in the league having conceded only 23 goals.  They stick to their manager, Christophe Galtier’s compact 4-4-2 and look to catch teams on the break.  And this may be where the game is won or lost.  The odds have Nice as favourites for this one and I am inclined to agree.  I have a feeling that Rennes’ style plays perfectly into Nice’s hands. And, while Rennes boast stacks of goals across the team, do not forget that Nice have the hyper-talented Amine Gouiri (17 goal contributions this season) on their side. It should be a very entertaining watch!

Ligue 1 – Both Teams To Score – Betting Odds

CLERMONT vs NANTES

The odds have Clermont as favourites here. I can almost see why. But I’m going for a Nantes win. Yes, Nantes have been increasingly inconsistent. They have lost two on the bounce but were six games unbeaten prior to that. And, yes, Clermont can pose a threat especially if Mohammed Bayo is fit and firing upfront. However, I feel like there is too much quality, well-rested now, in the Nantes team. It might not be a blowout. But it should be fascinating.  Both team have stacks to play for.  Clermont have lost three in a row, conceding eleven in the process, and are only one perilous point above the relegation playoff place.  Nantes are six points out from the European spots, a dream their fans have been dreaming for many years.  I can see Ludo Blas and Randal Kolo Muani working some magic. Nantes will sneak it.

LYON vs ANGERS

Can this be a ‘get right’ win for OL? I’m pretty confident it will be. The odds have Lyon as clear favourites.  This is logical.  Although nothing has been guaranteed for Lyon this season.  They have one win in their last five and are just as likely to conceded as they are to score. Excitingly, for the first time in a long time we will likely get to see the Ndombele-Aouar midfield axis that was so hyped those years ago. Young midfield maestro Max Caqueret is injured. Romain Faivre (14 goal contributions this season) might also be unavailable. We are living in the last days of the Bosz Era at Lyon. He’s a perennially overhyped manager. And Lyon’s play has been so inconsistent largely because of him. The players are not happy. Boateng and Denayer are the most senior to have been frozen out.  Gifted wonderkid Rayan Cherki also fell foul of Bosz before getting injured. Here, against a struggling Angers (two wins in their last 13 across all comps), Lyon will win. Angers are only five points above the relegation playoff place.  But, they do pose a goal threat.  Angelo Fulgini and Sofiane Boufal (international fatigue allowing) can tie even the best defences in knots. So, a Lyon clean sheet is not guaranteed. Indeed, I expect them to make heavier work of the win than should be the case.

STRASBOURG vs RC LENS

Following closely on the OGC Nice v Rennes game, this one also has the potential to be a cracker. These are two fabulous teams, separated by 4 points. Run very well and playing brilliant football. They’ve both slowed down a little as the season draws to a close. However, Strasbourg (WWDDDWD) remain right in the argument for European football next season. They are only two points behind Nice and two points clear of Lille behind them. Their dip in form has coincided with their talisman Ludovic Ajorque’s dry spell in front of goal. He has 10 goals and 7 assists this season.  But most of those came early on.  Calls for him to be selected by France have faded hard.  They need to get him firing again. Lens (DWLDW) have also stumbled.  This time directly linked to their leading star, Seko Fofana’s own fade.  He has seven goals this season.  It will be interesting to see how Jonathan Clauss plays after his first call up to the France squad.  He has been sublime form wing back this season with 4 goals and 9 assists. The odds have Strasbourg as narrow favourite. For me this is about right. This has ‘draw’ written all over it and that is what I am going to predict. But if I had to go black or white and pick a winner, it’d be the no doubt vociferous home advantage and thus Strasbourg taking the points.
