Superliga Argentina: Week 6

We’re back with week 6 of the Argentina Liga Professional de Football.

Platense vs Newell’s Old Boys

Newell’s is the leader of the championship along with Gimnasia, both have 14 points and their places are well deserved, as they are currently the two best teams in the league. The last game they were leading 2-1 against Patronato and they tied the game in the 94th minute of the second half, so they are thirsty for revenge and will go all out for the next game.

This time they face Platense, who are a very weak team financially, but nevertheless started the tournament on the right foot, positioning themselves in third place in the table.

We expect a win for Newell’s, however, we would not be surprised to see a draw.

Argentinos Juniors vs Tigre

Argentinos have had a tough start to the season, they can’t yet find the level that suits them best and gives them the results they are looking for, partly because two of the team’s star players Gabriel Avalos and Kevin MacAllister have been injured for the last three games, Kevin may return to the eleven this weekend as he is medically cleared and Gabriel could be back in a week.

They face the team that eliminated them in the last edition of the Copa de la Liga, Tigre, who are a team that have had a great year, but have failed to win any of their last five games.

It will undoubtedly be a very even match, which could go either way, with a draw being the most likely outcome.

Racing Club vs Independiente

The Clasico de Avellaneda is here, the second most important match in the country after River vs Boca.

Independiente is getting worse and worse, the team is in a huge political and economic crisis, and this is reflected on the pitch, as the team lost the last two games against weak rivals like Platense and Patronato, both games with the same result 1-3. This put in doubt the continuity of their coach Eduardo Dominguez, who will leave his post if they are defeated against Racing.

Racing, on the other hand, has been doing better, slowly finding their best level, with very varied results, and is emerging as the favourite to win, especially taking into account that they are playing at home. We expect a Racing victory

Atletico Tucuman vs Gimnasia La Plata

Gimnasia is the leader of the table, and the team that is playing the best so far in the competition, they have found a level that has given them the results they need, largely due to the level of their captain and star player Brahian Aleman, who is considered by many to be the best player in Argentine football.

On the other hand, Atletico Tucuman have had a much more solid start to the championship than in previous years, they were used to being a very weak team and now they have been strengthened, especially in the defensive aspect, incorporating Carlos Lampe, the Bolivian goalkeeper who has been the great figure of the team so far.

We expect a win for Gimnasia, although we would not be surprised by a draw, as Atletico Tucuman will undoubtedly give a hard-fought game.

Santa Fe vs Velez Sarsfield

Velez have made it through to the last 16 of the Copa Libertadores, knocking out River in a very controversial manner, while Colon have just missed out to Talleres at this stage. Both teams played in the Copa Libertadores on Wednesday, so we expect to see two tired teams, maybe even playing with substitutes.

They are two teams that have been playing well, so it will be a very tough game for both, knowing this and that both teams are tired, we expect to see a draw, possibly a goalless draw.

San Lorenzo vs Boca Juniors

Boca has just been eliminated from the Copa Libertadores against Corinthians this past Tuesday, in a very even match that ended with a penalty shootout, this has been a big blow to the spirits and morale of this team, so big was the blow that their technical director Sebastian Battaglia was fired hours after the defeat.

San Lorenzo has been in crisis for several years now, with pitiful teams that do not aspire to fight for what a big club like San Lorenzo should be fighting for. However, since the arrival of their new coach Ruben Insua, the team has raised its level and achieved results a little better than in previous years.

After all that has been said, we expect a Boca victory.

River Plate vs Godoy Cruz

River has been robbed, once again the corruption in CONMEBOL has been present and the referees have harmed Marcelo Gallardo’s team, who are out of the Copa Libertadores in the round of 16, and the dream of signing Luis Suarez, who confirmed that if River advanced in the Copa Libertadores, he would sign with the team, is over.

Now the team has to get back on its feet, and raise its head to fight for the remaining tournaments, the Copa Argentina and the Superliga. And they have the chance to start this new stage against Godoy Cruz, a team with many young players who are getting good results, but nevertheless it is very difficult for them to achieve anything against River.

The expected result is a River victory.
