Superliga Argentina: Week 14

In this edition we’ll try to give you some detailed insight regarding some of the most interesting upcoming games, so you can be more informed to place your bets. Let us know how you like this format! As always, thanks for reading.

This week will be a special one for Argentinean football, since this is the last week of the league cup, after this the four best teams of each zone will qualify to the next stage of the tournament, while all the others will be eliminated from it.

Rosario vs Estudiantes

This match will be very interesting to watch, even though neither of the two teams have anything important at stake, since Estudiantes qualified to the next phase by occupying the first place in the table, while Central has no chance to qualify, being at the bottom of the table.

This difference in positions may give us to think that we will see an easy victory for Estudiantes, but there are two factors of great importance that come into play, first, the team leading the league cup comes from playing Copa Libertadores on Tuesday this week so it is presumed that will form with a team mostly of players who are usually substitutes, in order to give rest to the starters. On the other hand, we will see the retirement of the historic striker Marco Ruben, who will also be playing at home, so they will surely pay tribute to him and look for a victory in his honour.

This game is difficult to predict as it depends a lot on Estudiantes, and whether they will use the starters or not, so the most likely result could be a draw.

River Plate vs Platense

River close this phase of the tournament at home to a weakened Platense, so we all know what to expect here. It is important to keep in mind that Marcelo Gallardo’s team has already qualified for the next phase of the Copa de la Liga, and also had to play a Copa Libertadores match this week, so we can expect an alternative team with mostly substitutes on River’s side.

Having said that, with either starters or substitutes, we expect a resounding victory for River.

Argentinos Juniors vs Union Santa Fe

Argentinos is a team that has shown to have a solid tactical idea and implemented by its players, which has given results to the team in most of the tournament, they are playing for all or nothing in this last matchday, since if they win, they will probably qualify to the next stage of the tournament.

On the other side we find Union, who have no chance of advancing in the competition and are focused on playing in the Copa Sudamericana, having to play a match this Thursday against Oriente Petrolero. For this reason we expect them to field a team with a majority of substitutes, which leaves us with the easy decision to put Argentinos as the favourites to win.

Gimnasia La Plata vs Newell’s Old Boys

This match will undoubtedly be the highlight of the weekend, as the winner will qualify for the next round, while the loser will be left out. They have been two teams that throughout the season have shown a great level, with many more high points than low points.

We believe that the favourite to win is Gimnasia, because they are on a great winning streak (having won their last game against Patronato 6-0) and also because they are playing at home with their supporters.

San Lorenzo vs Racing Club

San Lorenzo have been one of the weakest teams in the league, having only managed two wins in the thirteen matches they have played so far. It should also be noted that the club is going through an internal crisis, losing their coach two games ago and with all their fans calling for the dismissal of their president, all factors that we can see reflected in the poor performance of the team on the pitch.

On the other side Racing has been the revelation team of the season, being alongside Estudiantes and River the only teams that managed to get eight wins so far this season. The decision should be an easy one, even though Racing may field an alternative team as they are playing in the Copa Sudamericana, they should have no problem to get the win.

Tigre vs Boca Juniors

Boca have had very high and very low points in the season, apart from this irregular passing they have managed to qualify to the next stage, so this match will not have a great significance for them. Especially because Boca is completely focused on the Copa Libertadores, having to win the two remaining matches in the group stage of this competition to be able to go through to the next stage.

On the other side Tigre have shown an excellent level, even more so knowing that it is their first season back in the first division, as they achieved promotion this year. Tigre need to take a good result from this match to confirm their qualification to the next round, and they have a great team and the support of their fans, as they will be playing at home.

The likely outcome for this match could be a draw, or depending on the number of substitutes Boca use, a win for Tigre.

Sante Fe vs Velez Sarsfield

Neither of these teams have a chance of advancing to the next round, therefore we can expect a boring match as neither team will be much good for a win.

Both teams are playing in the Copa Libertadores and are focused 100% on that with the illusion of advancing to the round of 16 of the competition, so we will see both teams playing with substitute line-ups. Expect a draw in a boring game.
