Argentina  Betting Tips – Copa Libertadores: Week 4

Estudiantes (Arg) vs Nacional (Uru)

Estudiantes is one of the best teams that the Argentinean league has to offer, it is the team that has won the most games so far this season and has been showing an incredible level, comparable only to River.

Nacional are not having their best year, they are fifth in the Uruguayan league when they are usually in first or second place, as they are, along with Peñarol, the most important teams in their country.

These two teams met in the first round of the group stage and it was a hard fought match, which ended in a 0-0 draw, showing that both teams are very solid and well formed, however this time Estudiantes is playing at home where they have a streak of six consecutive wins, we believe that this factor may be enough to tip the balance, so we expect a victory for the Argentine team.

Colon Sante Fe (Arg) vs Cerro Porteno

Colon has just been robbed in the last Copa Libertadores match they played, where they faced Olimpia in Paraguay, in a match that ended in a 0-0 draw, in which the Argentine team had two goals disallowed for Off-Side, which were serious refereeing errors as the players were cleared (it is worth remembering that in the group stage of the Copa Libertadores there is still no VAR). Colon has not won for seven games, and is not managing to show the level it had at the beginning of the season.

On the other hand, Cerro Porteno is a very imposing and aggressive team, which is at the top of the standings in the Paraguayan championship and in its group in the Copa Libertadores, having lost only two of the sixteen matches it has played so far this season.

For these reasons we think that the team that comes in as favourites to win this match is Cerro Porteno, however, this match will be a final for Colon, as they need to win if they want to continue with the illusion of advancing to the next stage in the Copa. If we add to this the fact that the Argentinian team is playing at home, it can be a very important factor that can tip the balance.

Always Ready (Bol) vs Boca Juniors (Arg)

In the first round match, Boca won 2-0, proving to be a far superior team to Always Ready, but this time it will be very different, as they are playing in Bolivia.

Bolivia is a country whose teams are historically known for being weak, but nevertheless always manage to complicate their opponents when they play at home. This is due to the fact that it is a country that is many kilometres above sea level, which means that oxygen is scarce, which can cause hypoxia or lack of oxygen in players who are not used to it, which leads to immediate fatigue. Often they even carry oxygen tanks so that the players can breathe during the breaks.

Boca is playing a final, because if they don’t get a win it is very likely that they will be out of the Cup, but they will have a very difficult challenge and a test of character. We believe that a draw is the most likely outcome of this match, but taking into account all the factors mentioned above, anything can happen.

Fortaleza (Bra) vs River Plate (Arg)

In the first round of the cup, this was one of the best matches, a tightly contested ninety minutes with clear chances for both sides. However, River’s category and their great players were the trigger for the Argentinian team to win 2-0.

River have become accustomed to showing a level rarely reached by an Argentinean team, without going any further, the last match in the league they won 7-0 against a team like Sarmiento, thus cutting an undefeated streak of 7 home matches.

We expect to see a very similar game to the one we saw in Argentina, with the factor that this time, Fortaleza will be at home and is obliged to win to keep the faith to continue in the Copa Libertadores. We can expect a draw or a win for River Plate.

Talleres Cordoba (Arg) vs Flamengo (Bra)

Talleres is a team that has had an irregular season, without finding its best performance and having to change coach recently due to the lack of positive results, faces Flamengo, one of the most important teams in the continent that has a star-studded squad and is one of the main candidates to win the Copa Libertadores.

These teams have already met in the first round, which left us with a great match that ended with a 3-1 victory for the Brazilian team. Talleres played an excellent match, their players left everything on the pitch and fought the game in a great way, however, the quality of Flamengo won in the last twenty minutes of the match.

Talleres already faced this monster and realised that even if they play a perfect game they are almost impossible to beat, so what we can expect for this match is another Flamengo victory.

Bragantino (Bra) vs Velez Sarsfield (Arg)

Bragantino is a team of very young players, with many strengths and many weaknesses. They have a first class attack and a defence that looks like that of a third division team. That explains the match we saw in the first round between these two teams, which ended in a 2-2 draw. With two goals from Bragantino as a result of magnificent plays by their attackers, and two goals from Velez that were the absolute responsibility of Bragantino’s defenders.

It is worth noting that in the previous match between these two, Velez played half an hour with an extra player, due to the expulsion of Brazilian defender Aderlan Silva, and still failed to take advantage of it.

We think that because Velez has been having a forgettable year, changing coaches and not finding a convincing performance, the favourite to win is Bragantino.
