The Bundesliga fixture, 1. FSV Mainz 05 vs. Bayern Munich, kicks off at 14:30 (GMT+1) on Saturday, April 30, at the MEWA Arena.

1. FSV Mainz 05 are without a win in five Bundesliga games, DLLDL, following the 5-0 defeat to Wolfsburg last Friday at the Mercedes-Benz Arena. Looking to return to winning ways, the Zero5ers sit in 10th place, having picked up 39 points from 11W, 6D, and 14L. Mainz aim for a top-ten finish and see this dead-rubber clash against the newly-crowned Bundesliga champions as a fine opportunity to seize three points. A victory here would keep 11th-place Borussia Mönchengladbach who take on RB Leipzig on Monday at bay. FSV Mainz have hit the back of the net first in their last three Bundesliga matches against FC Bayern Munich [1W & 2L], and are looking to do so again when they take on the Reds this weekend. Following the nature of the game, Mainz will be looking to meet a weaker Bayern side. The club has a G.R. of 1.39 GPG this season, having scored 43 goals in 31 Bundesliga games. However, the Zero5ers have also conceded 41 goals. On Saturday, a 3—4—1—2 formation with Karim Onisiwo and Jonathan Burkardt in attack is expected from Bo Svensson for this clash against Bayern Munich. Meanwhile, Burgzorg (heart), St. Juste (shoulder injury), and Tauer (suspended) are all ruled out of the weekend's clash, along with Lee (knee injury).

After yet another embarrassing defeat, this time against the Black & Yellows, the Wolves take on the Zero5ers looking to halt an unprecedented descent down the Bundesliga table. VfL Wolfsburg vs. 1. FSV Mainz 05 kicks off at 19:30 (GMT+1) on Friday, April 22, at the Volkswagen Arena.

Mainz earned a point following a goalless draw against VfB Stuttgart at the MEWA Arena last weekend. The draw saw the 05ers move a spot up the table, from 10th to 9th place, having picked up 39 points from 11W, 6D, and 13L. However, Mainz are without a win in four BL games, WDLLD, ahead of this fixture against Wolfsburg. Die Nullfünfer are looking to finish the season inside the top-ten, and a victory here against Wolfsburg would be a huge step in that direction. Bo Svensson’s 5—3—2 formation, will see Jonathan Burkardt and Karim Onisiwo in attack once again. Meanwhile, Burgzorg (heart), Hack (ankle), and Lee (knee) are all on the injury list and ruled out of Friday’s game alongside St. Juste (shoulder injury).

After failing to take part in any Bundesliga action over the weekend, the Zero5ers make their return against the Black & Yellows in this COVID-inspired re-arranged fixture. The Bundesliga clash between 1. FSV Mainz 05 and Borussia Dortmund kicks off at 18:30 (GMT+1) on Wednesday, March 16, at the MEWA Arena.

The weekend clash between FSV Mainz and Augsburg was postponed due to the COVID outbreak at the club. A statement from the DFL read; "The Bundesliga game between Augsburg and Mainz, originally scheduled for Saturday 12 March, cannot go ahead as planned. The match has been postponed because Mainz still do not have the minimum number of players required by the DFL statutes as a result of positive COVID-19 findings." it continued: "It will now be played on Wednesday, April 6 at 6.30 pm CET." With a 3-1 defeat in their last match to Union Berlin, the 05ers have the form: "LWDWL" ahead of this fixture against Dortmund. In 10th place and with one more game in hand, Mainz has 34 points from 10W, 4D, & 10L. Despite picking up only a point from their last seven games on the road, Mainz have won five games in a row on home soil. - Their joint-best record, first achieved in 2009 under Thomas Tuchel, and are looking to pick up six in a row. A 3—5—2 formation with Karim Onisiwo and Jonathan Burkardt in attack is expected from Bo Svensson for this game against Dortmund. Alexander Hack and Dominik Kohr are both suspended for this fixture.

The Bundesliga fixture, 1. FSV Mainz 05 vs. Borussia Dortmund, kicks off at 15:30 (GMT+1) on Sunday, March 6, at the MEWA Arena.

Ten-man Mainz were looking to pick up back-to-back victories in a row on their visit to the Alte Forsterei but were stunned in a 3-1 defeat to Union Berlin. Union established an early lead through the Japanese midfielder Genki Haraguchi (7’) before another goal from Sheraldo Becker (56’) left Mainz with a two-goal deficit. Things went from bad to worse when Dominik Kohr [R. 60’] was given the marching orders, leaving the 05ers with the numerical deficit. Fifteen minutes later, the Nigerian, Union’s Taiwo Awoniyi (75’) struck. Delano Burgzorg (90’) eventually pulled one back in the shape of a consolation goal for the 05ers. The defeat was the second of its kind in five Bundesliga games, LWDWL, as Mainz sits in 9th place, with 34 points after 10W, 4D, & 10L. A fine home record in recent times, which leaves the club with five home victories in a row, has Bo Svensson slightly confident ahead of this fixture against the Black and Yellows. Mainz have a goal ratio of 1.46 GPG this season, having scored 35 goals in 24 Bundesliga games. However, they have conceded 29 goals [1.21 GPG] and have a G.D. of +6. Bo Svensson could go with the 3—4—1—2 formation against Dortmund, with Karim Onisiwo and Jonathan Burkardt in attack.

The Bundesliga fixture, 1. FSV Mainz 05 vs. Bayer 04 Leverkusen, kicks off at 20:30 (GMT+1) on Friday, February 18, at MEWA Arena.

The Zero5ers earned a point following the 1-1 draw against Freiburg on Bundesliga Matchday 22 at the Europa-Park Stadion. A goal-mouth scramble saw Alexander Hack (31') put Die Nullfünfer in the lead, a minute past the half-hour mark. Shortly before the break, Jonathan Burkardt had a golden opportunity to double the lead for Mainz but failed to beat Flekken in goal on his first attempt, before firing wide on his second. Nine minutes after the hour mark, Freiburg's Nils Petersen (69') struck with the leveler, leaving both sides on parity at 1-1 until the final whistle. With the draw, the Zero5ers have acquired 7 points from a possible 15, LWLWD, and are left with a ratio of 1.4 points per game in the last five matches. In 9th place, having picked up 31 points from 9W, 4D, & 9L, Die Nullfünfer are looking to return to winning ways on Friday when they take on the Company’s Eleven. Mainz have won each of their last four games on home soil, and a win here would equal their club record of five in a row from the 2009-10 season under Thomas Tuchel. Three at the back, shaped in a 3—5—2 formation with Karim Onisiwo and Jonathan Burkardt in attack may be seen from Bo Svensson for this clash against Bayer Leverkusen. Despite having a dry run of eight league games without a goal, Jonathan Burkardt remains the club’s top scorer with seven goals after 22 appearances. The 21-year-old aims to break the duck on the first day of the weekend when the 05ers take on the Eleven. Twenty-five-year-old St. Juste, who has the top speed record [36.63km/h] in the Bundesliga this season, is ruled out of this fixture due to a shoulder injury.

The Red Bulls make their return to Bundesliga action, hoping to bag three points and get their top-four ambitions back on track following the poor run of form in the first half of the season. RB Leipzig vs. 1. FSV Mainz 05 kicks off at 15:30 (GMT+1) on Saturday, January 8, at the Red Bull Arena.

Borrowing a leaf from Leipzig’s book, the Zero5ers also failed to earn a point right before the winter break, following the 1-0 defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt. Jesper Lindstrøm (34') scored the only goal of the game at the Deutsche Bank Park. The defeat saw Mainz drop three places, from 6th to 9th place on the Bundesliga table. Mainz have 24 points from 7W, 3D, & 7L, and the patchy form: LWLWL, ahead of this match against RB Leipzig. For this fixture against the Red Bulls, Bo Svensson could appear along with Die Nullfünfer in the 3—5—2 formation. Jonathan Burkardt and Karim Onisiwo may form the attacking pair upfront. Meanwhile, Adam Szalai (neck injury) remains ruled out until late January.

The German Bundesliga fixture, Bayern Munich vs. 1. FSV Mainz 05, kicks off at 15:30 (GMT+1) on Saturday, December 11, at Allianz Arena. This highly anticipated fixture signals the arrival of Bundesliga Matchday 15, which comes after 126 matches and 398 goals. Robert Lewandowski remains the Bundesliga top scorer with 16 goals, while Thomas Müller is the King of Assists, having bagged a haul of 11 to his name. Hoffenheim’s Oliver Baumann and Wolfsburg’s Koen Casteels were joined by three others as having the most clean sheets in the Bundesliga, 5. Greuther Fürth remains rooted at the bottom of the table with just 1 point, while Bayern Munich stretched their lead to four points at the top of the table, having defeated second-placed Dortmund, 3-2, in Der Klassiker on MD14.

Last weekend at the Opel Arena, FSV Mainz defeated VfL Wolfsburg 3-0 to take all three points. The victory saw Mainz move from 9th to 7th place on the Bundesliga table, having picked up 21 points from 6W, 3D, & 5L. The club has a form that reads: WDDLW, ahead of Saturday’s game, and Bo Svensson will have his eyes set on at least a point in this difficult fixture against Bayern Munich. Die Nullfünfer could line up with the dynamic 3—5—2 formation, leaving Karim Onisiwo and Jonathan Burkardt in attack.

The Zero5ers take on the Wolves at 15:30 (GMT+1) on Saturday, December 4, at MEWA Arena.

1. FSV Mainz 05 picked up a 2-1 defeat to VfB Stuttgart at the Mercedes-Benz Arena last Friday. A remarkable solo run from Omar Marmoush [from Wolfsburg on loan], crowned with a switch from right-foot to left, before forcing a save from Robin Zentner, almost saw Stuttgart take the lead in the opening minutes. A moment later, the Japanese defender, Hiroki Ito (21'), found the back of the net with a remarkable right-footed curler, too strong for the fingertips of Zentner in goal for Mainz. Alexander Hack (38') found the leveler minutes later with what was his first Bundesliga goal since January. Both sides left 25,000 spectators behind for the break, with parity restored at the Mercedes-Benz Arena. But a remarkable goal from another defender, left-back Borna Sosa (52'), saw Stuttgart take the lead minutes after the break until full-time. It was the first defeat for Mainz in five Bundesliga games: WWDDL, and it saw the club move from 8th to 9th place, having failed to earn a point on MD13. The Zero5ers have 18 points from 5W, 3D, & 5L. A dynamic 3—5—2 formation with the duo consisting of Karim Onisiwo and Jonathan Burkardt was seen in the game against Stuttgart. The shape saw Mainz put 18 shots together, 5 of them on target, stemming from 550 delicate passes. Bo Svensson could stick with the same formation for this fixture, knowing Wolfsburg are quick in attack and balancing attack with defense would be ideal to come off with at least a point. Dominik Kohr is ruled out for this fixture along with Anderson Lucoqui.

Following a 2-1 win over Arminia Bielefeld on Matchday 10, the 05ers return to Bundesliga action in this match against Borussia Mönchengladbach. This fixture, slated for 20:30 (GMT+1) on Friday, November 5 at MEWA Arena, signals the start of Matchweek 11 in the German Bundesliga.

Goals from Mainz’s Jae-Sung Lee (25') and Jonathan Burkardt (68') were enough to see off Arminia, whose only goal came from Jacob Laursen (42'), last weekend at the Bielefelder Alm in front of 19,477 spectators. Having picked up back-to-back victories, LLLWW, the 05ers moved two spots higher from 7th to 5th place. Mainz now have 16 points after 5W, 1D, & 4L, and Bo Svensson will aim for three more points on Friday when this fine window of opportunity presents itself, knowing he faces an inconsistent Gladbach. Mainz has a decent goal ratio of 1.4 goals per game, having scored 14 goals in ten Bundesliga appearances. However, the club has conceded 10 goals (1 goal conceded per game) over the course of the season and has a goal difference of +4. On Friday, Bo could utilize three at the back once again, fashioned into the 3—1—4—2 formation or its variant, the 3—5—2, leaving Karim Onisiwo and Jonathan Burkardt in attack. Meanwhile, St. Juste (shoulder injury) remains in doubt for this fixture.

The fixture between the Black & Yellows and the 05ers ushers in another weekend of Bundesliga action after 63 games and 192 goals. Bayern Munich remains at the top of the league table while the newcomers, Greuther Fürth, stay at the bottom. Erling Haaland and Robert Lewandowski share the top spot on the goal scorers’ chart with 7 goals apiece while Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz has the highest number of assists, 5. Meanwhile, Mainz’s goalkeeper Robin Zentner holds the league to ransom with 4 clean sheets. Dortmund vs. FSV Mainz 05 kicks off at 14:30 (GMT+1) on Saturday, October 16, at Signal Iduna Park.

The 05ers are in 9th place with 10 points from 3W, 1D, & 3L. They return to Bundesliga action after back-to-back defeats, WWDLL, having lost to Union Berlin, 2-1, on Matchday 7 at the MEWA Arena. A draw for Bo Svensson’s side would be a fine result considering Dortmund’s remarkable form. The familiar 3—4—2—1 formation from the 42-year-old Svensson could see Karim Onisiwo in attack once again. Yet to hit the back of the net, the 29-year-old has 2 assists to his name and could find the third on Saturday.
