After a narrow victory over the Yellow-Blues at the weekend, the Sons of the Gods make their way back to European soil, hoping to find a way through to the UEFA Champions League round-of-eight. AFC Ajax vs. S.L. Benfica kicks off at 21:00 (GMT+1) on Tuesday, March 15 at the Amsterdam ArenA.

Ajax returns to the star-studded table of champions following a 3-2 win over SC Cambuur in the Eredivisie at the weekend. The Sons of the Gods sit at the top of the Dutch domestic league table, with three victories in a row across all competitions: DLWWW. Ajax picked up a 2-2 draw in the reverse fixture against Benfica, and are looking to make an entry into the next phase in the League of Champions. Ajax has three wins and an equal number of draws in six two-legged knockout fixtures against Portuguese teams [3W, 0D, & 3L]. Erik ten Hag, who is circling in on the permanent managerial role at Manchester United, spoke to the media in what appears to be a forewarning ahead of Tuesday’s clash against Benfica. The Ajax manager watered down the prospects of his side reaching the latter stages of the UEFA Champions League. "The lifespan of our team has always been short in recent years. I understood - and still understand - the sale of players," he said. "But you can hardly cope with such bloodletting if you want to continue to play a significant role in the Champions League," he added. On Tuesday, the 52-year-old could line up the 4—2—3—1 formation with Sébastien Haller at the top of the shape. Sébastien Haller, with 11 UCL goals, is the tournament's second-highest goal-scorer [behind Robert Lewandowski, 12] and has hit the back of the net in every game in this season's competition, having scored Ajax’s second goal in the reverse fixture. On availability, Sean Klaiber and Maarten Stekelenburg are both ruled out of this fixture.

After a draw against the Chequered Ones at home, the Eagles are back on European soil for this clash against the Sons of the Gods. The UEFA Champions League round-of-16 clash, S.L. Benfica vs. AFC Ajax, kicks off at 21:00 (GMT+1) on Wednesday, February 23, at the Estádio da Luz.

Ajax returns to the star-studded table of champions following a 1-0 victory over Willem II in the Eredivisie at the weekend. The Sons of the Gods finished first in Group C and were one of three clubs to win all six games in the group phase, along with Liverpool (Group B) and Bayern München (E), becoming the first Dutch team to collect maximum points in a UEFA Champions League group stage. Meeting Portuguese opposition on European soil for the first time since the early nineties, Ajax has as many victories as defeats in two-legged knock-out fixtures against Portuguese outfits, 3W & 3L. Erik ten Hag would like to see a victory added to the tally at the end of this trip to Lisbon. A 4—2—3—1 formation with Sébastien Haller at the top of the shape is expected from the 52-year-old against Benfica on Wednesday. On availability, Sean Klaiber and Maarten Stekelenburg (groin injury) are both ruled out of this fixture.

Meanwhile, Video Assistant Referee Paolo Valeri (ITA) will be in communication with the six-man crew from the VAR room.

Ajax return to the star-studded table of champions following an emphatic 5-0 victory against Willem II in the Eredivisie over the weekend. The club sits at the top of the Dutch domestic league, unbeaten in five games across all competitions: DWWWW. Like Liverpool (Group B) and Bayern Munich (Group E), Ajax have also won all their fixtures in the UEFA Champions League group stage (5W, 0D, & 0L), and have 15 points. With a place in the last-16 already guaranteed, coupled with a first-place finish, Erik ten Hag, who remains on Manchester United’s radar for the permanent managerial seat at Old Trafford, will be free to experiment on UCL MD6. Hag was caught wooing suitors over the weekend, having told the Dutch daily, de Volkskrant, that he was ready to take the next bold step in his managerial career, fashioned in a come-and-get-me plea. I think I'm ready for it [to move to a top foreign club]. I would be happy to take up that challenge, the 51-year-old said, seemingly pushing the button at Old Trafford. Sébastien Haller, UCL's top scorer with nine goals, along with Robert Lewandowski, is expected to keep his place in Hag's 4—3—3 formation, as he attempts to outscore the Pole in what appears to be a neck-to-neck battle. Maarten Stekelenburg is out for the season, while Sean Klaiber remains doubtful. If booked, Jurrien Timber will miss the next match.

The UEFA Champions League Group C fixture, Beşiktaş JK vs. AFC Ajax, kicks off at 18:45 (GMT+1) on UCL Matchday 5, Wednesday, November 24, at the Vodafone Arena. In Sunday's fixture [Eredivisie], AFC Ajax smashed RKC Waalwijk to bits and pieces in a 5-0 win. Having secured a last-16 berth in the Champions League, Ajax have now set their sights on a first-place finish in Group C, and need a win over Beşiktaş on Wednesday to achieve that feat. Having defeated ten-man Dortmund on Matchday 4, 3-1, Ajax has 12 points after four victories in four UCL games: 4W, 0D, & 0L. Ajax has picked up nine victories in 11 games against Turkish sides, and Erik ten Hag aims to maintain the impressive record for Ajax. The 51-year-old could do with the 4—2—3—1 formation, leaving Sébastien Haller in attack against Beşiktaş. Sean Klaiber remains doubtful, while Maarten Stekelenburg (hip injury) is ruled out for the season. Mohammed Kudus' availability also remains uncertain. Furthermore, Edson Álvarez is suspended, and Jurrien Timber will be suspended for the next match if he is booked against Beşiktaş.

Having picked up an embarrassing 4-0 defeat at the hands of Ajax on UEFA Champions League Matchday 3, Dortmund takes on the Sons of the Gods in this reverse Group C fixture, slated for 21:00 (GMT+1) on Wednesday, November 3, at Signal Iduna Park. Referee Michael Oliver (ENG) will be in charge while Stuart Attwell (ENG) will be at the controls in the VAR room.

A confident Ajax returns looking to pick up a back-to-back double over the Black & Yellows. However, expecting an easy win over Dortmund on German soil could end up in disappointment. The Amsterdammers have lost in four of their last six trips to Germany (1W, 1D, & 4L). The Dutch side leads Group C with 9 points after 3W, 0D, & 0L, and a win on Wednesday will put them in the last-16 with two games to spare. A probable 4—2—3—1 formation, with Haller at the top of the shape, is expected from Erik ten Hag. Sean Klaiber has a knee injury and is ruled out of this fixture alongside Maarten Stekelenburg.

On UCL Matchday 2, the club put Beşiktaş aside in another 2-0 win on home soil. Steven Berghuis (17’) put Ajax in front minutes into the first half before UCL Matchday 1 hero, Sébastien Haller (43’), struck with an improvised finish. Following the single strike, Haller became the first player in the history of the competition to score five times in his first two UCL appearances. The impressive Matchday 2 win leaves the Dutch outfit at the top of Group C with equal points as Dortmund, 6, after 2W, 0D & 0L, while having a G.D. of +6. Erik ten Hag's side has 14 home victories in 17 against German opposition and will look to extend that record when Borussia Dortmund visits Amsterdam on Tuesday. The club aims to come out on top in what would be a contest for the top spot in Group C. The trio consisting of Tadic, Steven Berghuis and Antony, could return in attack right behind Haller in a probable 4—2—3—1 formation against Dortmund. Sean Klaiber and Maarten Stekelenburg remain doubtful for this fixture. Cameroonian goalkeeper André Onana, who remains at odds with the club, is expected to return to action in November after having his doping ban shortened from a year to nine months.

AFC Ajax defeated Sporting CP 5-1 on UEFA Champions League Matchday 1 at the José Alvalade Stadium. Sebastien Haller was the best player on the pitch after bagging an extraordinary haul of four goals (2', 9', 51' & 63') in just over an hour. Steven Berghuis (39') was also on the scoresheet for Ajax while Paulinho (33') got the consoling goal for the hosts. Haller's total saw him become the first player to bag four goals on his first appearance in the UEFA Champions League since Marco van Basten achieved the same feat for AC Milan in 1992. The win sits Ajax on top of the Group C table with 3 points and a G.D. of +4 after Matchday 1: 1W, 0D, & 0L. Manager Erik ten Hag, who recently debunked rumors linking him to Barcelona, was extremely pleased with the lads for the big win. The 51-year-old will try to cement Ajax's position at the top of the standings with another victory on Tuesday. However, Erik ten Hag's side have picked up five defeats in their last nine European matches on home soil (W4, 0D & 5L). The trio, consisting of Tadic, Haller, and Antony, could return in attack when Erik ten Hag lines up the 4—2—3—1 formation or its close variant, the 4—3—3. Sean Klaiber and Maarten Stekelenburg remain doubtful for this fixture. Cameroonian goalkeeper André Onana could be back in action for Ajax in November after having his doping ban shortened from a year to nine months. This will be the fourth straight appearance in the tournament for Ajax, and coach Erik ten Hag will be in the run for a win to get Ajax started on a flying note. A 4—3—3 formation with Sébastien Haller in the middle of attack is expected while playing alongside Dusan Tadic and Antony. The 27-year-old French forward has four goals in as many appearances for the club in the domestic league. He has also bagged an assist while contributing to 34% of all episodes that have led to a goal for Ajax. Ajax could be without a few players for this trip to the Estádio José Alvalade on Wednesday. Sean Klaiber is ruled out, while goalkeeper Andre Onana is suspended (doping ban) for this UEFA Champions League opener against Sporting CP.
