Superliga Argentina: Week 8

Last week had no big surprises, incredibly we managed to correctly predict the draws between Racing and Newell’s, Rosario Central and Independiente and River and Velez. And we also managed to correctly predict the victories of Boca and Argentinos Juniors. The only two results we failed to predict were wins for Gimnasia and Banfield, who we predicted would win and both teams ended up drawing.

Racing vs Central Cordoba

Racing has had an up and down season, coming from a 1-1 draw last Tuesday against the weak Arsenal, in a game in which they dominated the ninety minutes and could not win due to the great performance of the rival goalkeeper and the inaccuracy of their forwards.

This matchday they face the poor Central Cordoba, who lost their last two games, after a big change of players in their squad, they have not been able to have good performances, as they are a team of players who do not seem to know each other. All this is evidenced by the fact that they are at the bottom of the table.

Undoubtedly the big favourite to win is Racing.

Gimnasia de la Plata vs Lanus

Gimnasia started the tournament in a stupendous way, winning four games in a row, which instantly put them at the top of the table, a place that, as we anticipated, they could not keep for long, they have not won for three games now, with two defeats and a draw. Last Thursday they lost 1-0 away to River.

Lanus, along with Aldosivi, is at the bottom of the table, having won only one game so far in the league. They are a team in crisis that recently lost their coach Miguel Almirón, who resigned, and they still don’t have a new coach. They are in a very bad moment from which they need to recover.

We expect a win for Gimnasia de la Plata.

Argentina Copa de la Profesional | Over 2.5 Goal Odds

Rosario Central vs Arsenal

Rosario Central are coming off the back of last Thursday’s win over Newell’s in what was the city derby, which lifted their spirits in a big way. Despite this positive result, it should not be forgotten that Newell’s dominated most of the game and Rosario’s win was not entirely deserved. The team led by Carlos Tevez is not playing very well and still has a lot of room for improvement.

They face Arsenal, a team that started the semester in a very weak way, and that by dint of hard work and effort managed to become a more solid team, lost only one game out of the nine they played so far and are in the middle of the table.

We expect a win for Arsenal, although a draw is likely.

River Plate vs Aldosivi

Match analysis: River is slowly recovering its best level, coming from a 1-0 win over Gimnasia last Thursday, showing a very good level, and with the debut of their two new star signings, the winger Pablo Solari and the Colombian national team forward Miguel Borja. Hopefully River’s level will continue to improve from here on in until they get back to what they were.

On the other hand, Aldosivi is so far the worst team in the league, they are at the bottom of the standings, and it is a table that has TWENTY EIGHT TEAMS, they won only one game out of the nine they played so far this semester.

We expect a River victory by a large number of goals.

Boca Juniors vs Estudiantes

Boca is, once again, in crisis. No surprise for Argentinians, who are used to conflicts breaking out at the club every year and being talked about in all the country’s media. After winning the League Cup and showing a great level, the team collapsed after the elimination in the Copa Libertadores against Corinthians, which triggered the dismissal of their coach Sebastian Battaglia. Boca still have no coach, having just lost 0-2 against Argentinos Juniors, showing a very bad level, to the point that it seemed that their players didn’t even want to play.

Estudiantes is in a great moment, they are one of the best teams in the country and one of the few still playing in the Copa Libertadores, they just won 3-1 in a brilliant match against Barracas Central.

The most logical thing would be for us to see a win for Estudiantes, but since it is so uncertain how Boca will continue to play, and taking into account that Boca will be playing at home, a draw is a likely alternative.

Argentinos Juniors vs Banfield

Argentinos Juniors is coming off a 2-1 win over Tigre last weekend in a thrilling match. And they are playing very well, slowly getting back to the level that led them to fight for the Copa de la Liga until the end in the first half of the year. This is partly due to the great level of its midfielders, especially Fausto Vera and Javier Cabrera, who recovered from his injury in an excellent way and is playing outstandingly.

Barracas Central comes from playing against River in Copa Argentina last Wednesday, so it will arrive with a tired team, which will probably use substitute players.

We expect a win for Argentinos Juniors.

San Lorenzo vs Banfield

San Lorenzo beat Boca 2-1 this past weekend, which has lifted everyone’s spirits to accompany the team’s resurgence under coach Ruben Insua. However, it was not all positive for San Lorenzo, as their young defender Jeremias James suffered a serious knee injury, which will keep him out of action for several months.

On the other hand Banfield comes in a great moment, winning four of the last six games, with the figure of Ramiro Enrique, a young striker who is being a trend in Argentina these last weeks, as he went from being a complete unknown to score two goals per game, the promise of Banfield is in a great moment and helps the team to have great performances.

We expect a win for Banfield, although San Lorenzo is in a good moment, we do not expect it to be enough to get a good result, especially considering that Banfield will be playing at home.
