MLS 2022 Week 14 | MLS Betting Tips

Kris Brown – AKA MLS Card Guy – is our resident serious Major League Soccer expert.

Kris’s passion for the MLS really took off during the 2018 season in which he was a part of the team at DC United that opened Audi Field and welcomed Wayne Rooney to the MLS. He is now in his second season with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds of the USL. Kris likes to follow D.C United, Cincinnati, Seattle, and Atlanta.

His favorite player in the MLS is Luciano Acosta, but past favorites include Clint Dempsey and Kevin Paredes. The most iconic game he attended came at Audi field against Orlando in 2018, Wayne Rooney famously chased down an Orlando player who was racing towards an open DC goal, expertly tackled the ball away to save the draw, then unleashed a laser from midfield that Acosta headed in to complete the hat trick and seal the win.

The international break is still going on (sorta) but we have some MLS action to get into this week. Obviously, you want to really keep in mind who will be missing for these matches as some teams will be hit harder than others with international duty. With that in mind let’s jump into the light action this weekend.

MLS Betting Tips – Week 14

MLS Betting – Game Week 14 Preview

Charlotte vs New York Red Bulls

It is really well documented how much better this Charlotte team is when playing at home. Throw in the fact that they should get the new coach bump and I really like them as home underdogs. We have talked about how inconsistent New York has been and how that can provide some value when betting against them as favorites. Long and Casseres miss out for the Red Bulls and Swiderski, Franco, and Makoun will be away from Charlotte.

Nashville vs San Jose

What happens when you combine a top 5 scoring team like San Jose with a Nashville team who doesn’t know who its keeper is and is missing its captain Centre back due to international duty? Does a 2-2 scoreline ring any bells? I can’t believe I am saying this for a Nashville game but I am expecting to see a few goals in this one. Maybe San Jose can stick it out for a road point or maybe Nashville is too much going forward. Either way my value lies with the over on goals. Is Over 3.5 asking too much?

MLS Betting – Over 2.5 Goals Betting Odds

New England vs Everybody

This is a really interesting scheduling quirk this week. New England faces Sporting Kansas City on Sunday, their last competitive game was May 28th. Then New England will face Orlando on Wednesday, their last game was May 28th. After that New England will have to face Minnesota next Sunday, they will be playing their first competitive match since… May 28th. That means that 11% of the MLS teams will come out of their international break against New England. This stretch is absolutely crucial. New England has got to start racking up some points soon unless they want to fall behind other teams with fewer games remaining to play.

Seattle vs Vancouver

International call ups are brutal in this game, 9 in total by my count. Seattle definitely has more difference makers away than Vancouver does. Seattle is losing Roldan, Morris, Tolo, Arreaga, and Rusnak. Vancouver loses Brown, Bikel, Cavallini, and Cubas. Vancouver also just played against RSL so they should be in better match fitness than Seattle. Given a normal game between these two in Seattle I would love to take 1.65 on the home team, but considering we will see what essentially amounts to a Seattle B team, maybe there is value on Vancouver?
