Superliga Argentina: First Week Ups and Downs

Here we are again to analyse the most relevant things that have taken place in the first week of competition of the exciting Argentine Superliga. In the following report we will be reviewing the Marquee Matchups and we will analyse how the most important teams performed, which teams stood out in a surprising way and on the other hand which teams disappointed. Keep in mind that this week each team played two matches.

Boca Juniors vs Huracan

This is a very interesting match, because they are two teams that started the championship in a good way, on the one hand we have Boca, which returns in this match to be local at their mythical stadium “La Bombonera”, which they could not use the last matches due to the bad condition of the field. Boca is coming along very well, undefeated with two ties and two victories in the first four matches of the championship, but more important than the results is the way they play and manage to dominate their rivals. On the other hand, Huracan comes with some high and low points, showing a good level in the first games, which then dissipated after a defeat against one of the worst teams of the tournament in Arsenal. Undoubtedly our clear favorite to win is Boca Juniors.

Velez Sarsfield vs Estudiantes

A match between two important teams, that in a normal situation would be hard fought and disputed, but it won’t be like that this time. Our clear favorite to win is Velez, why? Because Estudiantes comes from having played a very tough game in the qualifying phase of the Copa Libertadores last Wednesday against Audax Italiano (Chile), in which they finally managed to get the victory and pass to the next phase, this makes us suppose that in order to give rest to their players, Estudiantes will form a team with several alternatives instead of the usual starters. On the other hand, Velez started the tournament with a lower level than what we are used to, but this is something that will surely be solved with the passing of the matches as the team gets to know each other, since it has players of a high level among its roster.

Arsenal de Sarandi vs Lanus

There is not much to say here, Arsenal is one of the weakest teams in Argentinean soccer that usually tend to play very boring matches to watch, in which they have the whole team defending the ninety minutes of the game and have one or two goal situations due to counterattacks, this sometimes works for them, but as we can see in their results most of the time it does not. On the other hand, Lanus is a team with players of great level, that with the help of their coach Miguel Almiron are finding the way to overcome the matches. Although they have not started the year as well as expected, Lanus is a much superior team, so we suppose that with a little effort it will not be very difficult for them to get the victory.

 Godoy Cruz vs Independiente

A very hard fought match, Independiente has more important and higher level players, they also have one of the star managers of the previous year, Eduardo Dominguez, who was champion of the Copa de la Liga with Colon. Apart from these two factors, the team has not yet been able to adapt to the idea of the game proposed by the new coach, so it is far from giving the best level it can show. On the other hand, Godoy Cruz started very weak in the first three games, and was able to recover in the last one, when they won 2-1 against Rosario Central. It is a very young team with some interesting players, but nothing surprising. If we have to bet, there is a good chance that it will be a draw, or that Independiente will end up winning by a small margin.
